What We're About

The Church of the Nazarene is the largest denomination in the classical Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. The doctrine that distinguishes the Church of the Nazarene and other Wesleyan denominations from most other Christian denominations is that of entire sanctification. Nazarenes believe that God calls Christians to a life of holy living that is marked by an act of God, cleansing the heart from original sin and filling the individual with love for God and humankind. This experience is marked by entire consecration of the believer to do God’s will and is followed by a life of seeking to serve God through service to others. Like salvation, entire sanctification is an act of God’s grace, not of works. Our pursuant service to God is an act of love whereby we show our appreciation for the grace that has been extended to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe in one God – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

What We Believe

We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary for faith and Christian living.

We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil.

We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.

We believe that atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes in the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.

We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.

We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.

Our History

Following a revival that started the denomination in 1908, LFCN was organized with 10 charter members. Over the years and several locations later, our church campus now sits at 1604 S. Medford St. eager and ready to make a difference for God’s kingdom. Our church campus, as it stands today, was built and dedicated in 1986. In 2003, additional parking was added and many improvements were made to modernize our first impression. In 2005, more renovations were completed to facilitate the growth of LFCN so that we could more effectively serve the families of Angelina County. As of today, God is writing a new page of history daily so that those who come behind us might see His mighty hand at work!

What to Expect

A friendly church family that will welcome you with open arms. No matter how large we grow, that is who we are and that will NEVER change! Here at 1604 S. Medford Drive, you will enjoy an inviting atmosphere where you will not feel judged or have to put on a show. Whether you come in a T-shirt, jeans and flip flops or a three piece suit, everyone is welcomed and accepted at Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene. Our congregation consists of people from all walks of life who are all at different stages of their journey. So, no matter who you are and where you are at, you are welcome! You will always be greeted by a smiling face and handed a worship folder to help you engage in the events of that day as well as inform you of things that are happening in the church. Our services are made up of fellowship, worship and praise, times of prayer, times of giving, the reading of Holy Scripture, and dynamic and relevant preaching. There are volunteers and staff who will love and care for your children. In Sunday School and Children’s Church each child will experience an engaging lesson from the Bible at the age-appropriate level. Often times, our services will conclude with some type of tangible response. Following services there is always time for our guests to connect with those around them and hopefully depart together to share life over a cup of coffee or a meal.
